Candidate Statement for Voter Information Booklet

Below is the statement I prepared for the Voter Information booklet that will be mailed to all voter households. I submitted it in late August. The Spanish translation appears below the English.

STATEMENT OF CANDIDATE FOR MEMBER OF THE GOVERNING BOARD
Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, Trustee Area No. 4

CRAIG WILSON AGE: 59       Occupation: Retired Teacher
Education and Qualifications:

As a retired teacher, I have come to believe there is no
more important institution at the local level than schools. Even if you have no children,
you should care about local education. Any failure in its mission adds a small but real
cost that we all bear.

In running for school board member, one of my priorities will be to make sure every
elementary school has band directors, nurses, librarians, and similar positions that were
cut during the last economic downturn. A healthy school district maintains a variety of
activities to involve and motivate students.

Student success is the most important goal. Resources must be devoted to schools,
teachers and staff to ensure that every child has access to strong and effective supports,
materials and programs. I will promote policies that remove obstacles to success, so
that we have safe and welcoming schools for students and parents no matter their
background. We must also build positive employee morale.

Finally, I will work as your advocate on the board, promoting open meetings and

Educación y Currículum Vitae:

Como maestro jubilado, estoy convencido de que no hay institución más
importante a nivel local que en las escuelas. Aunque no tenga hijos, usted
debería preocuparse por la educación local. Cualquier falla en su misión
suma un costo pequeño pero real que cargamos todos.

Al postularme para ser miembro de la junta escolar, una de mis prioridades
será asegurarme de que cada escuela primaria tenga directores de banda,
enfermeros, bibliotecarios, y puestos similares que fueron eliminados
durante la última crisis económica. Un distrito escolar saludable tiene una
variedad de actividades para que los estudiantes participen y se sientan
motivados.

El éxito de los estudiantes es el objetivo más importante. Los recursos
deben destinarse a las escuelas, los maestros y el personal para
garantizar que cada niño tenga acceso a apoyos, materiales y programas
sólidos y efectivos. Promoveré políticas que eliminen los obstáculos para el
éxito, de modo que tengamos escuelas seguras y acogedoras para los

construir una moral positiva en los empleados.
